Damn the Torpedoes started life as an excuse to simply blow out some stripped-down garage punk power-pop rocknroll. Through time, a heap of gigs, 3 EPs and a string of ex-girlfriends, a more aggressive and discordant edge has crept into Wally’s jangly guitars, Lee’s twangy picking, Dick’s rumbling bass fuzz and Ando’s pounding drums, to create a sound that sits comfortably between ‘wild drunken party music’ and ‘noisy music your girlfriend will tolerate’.

Song-wise, they don’t like to drag on. Short, snappy and to the point – basic verse/chorus structure, no solos, a few hooks, in and out in about 2 minutes on average. Their longest track – the epic ‘Sea Shanty’ – clocks in at about 3 and a half minutes. Post-rock, they ain’t.
